I just signed up for AgentEvaluator and saw that you require business history as part of my personal profile. I am a newer agent, but have lived in my market for 15 years. Can I put these 15 years under “years in local market” even if I was not in real estate?

Good question! When we first included the business history as part of the proposal process, everyone thought that “years in local market” could mean either years in real estate or years lived in the market. Many agents enjoyed this flexibility, but almost immediately we received emails from concerned consumers.
Even though the years in real estate may have been less than years in local market, consumers always defaulted to the latter as the indicator of the agent’s real estate background and were displeased when finding out something different.
We now encourage agents to have BOTH numbers reflect their real estate experience in order to provide an accurate portrayal of your background to the consumer.
Remember, the personal response and marketing section of the proposal can reflect your neighborhood expertise, so it’s a good idea to have it reflected there.
