Richmond is the capital of Virginia and an independent city located in the Richmond-Petersburg region and is at the center of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). Richmond has twelve different residential and commercial neighborhoods. For example, Carytown is a residential and commercial area that generally consists of 1920's era homes and privately owned shops, clothing stores, cafe's, and restaurants. The Museum District is located just west of the Fan district and north of Carytown. Some of the districts amenities include Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, The Science Museum of Virginia, and the Virginia Historical Society. Richmond is home to a few prestigious colleges and universities such as the University of Richmond and Virginia State University. Richmond has an abundance of culture and historical heritage that can be seen and experienced throughout the city's establishments, historical sites, memorials and monuments, and during festivals and events. Some of the institutions and historical sites include the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Tredegar Iron Works and Civil War Battlefields National Park Visitors Center, and the Virginia State Capital. With its small population and rich cultural amenities, Richmond is an upscale community and an excellent place to live.
