Tennessee is named after that Tennessee River and was the 16 state to be admitted into the Union in 1796. Referring to the large amount of soldiers that volunteered from Tennessee during the War of 1812, the state has been nicknamed "The Volunteer State".

Based mostly on manufacturing, service industries, and agriculture, Tennessee's economy is the 18th largest in the nation. Regal Entertainment Group and FedEx Corporation are both headquartered in Tennessee.

Tennessee borders Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and Missouri. Nashville, known as "Music City" and "the world capital of country music", is Tennessee's capital and second largest city in the state. Tennessee stretches from the Mississippi River on the west to the Great Smokey Mountains on that east.

Tennessee features two NASCAR racing events each year at Bristol Motor Speedway located in Bristol, Tennessee.

Did you know? The most visited national park in the United States is The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Also, a replica of the famous ancient Greek building - The Parthenon, stands in Nashville's Centennial Park.
