Relocating to Lawton
At the turn of the 20th century, the land, which would one day become Lawton was a Kiowa-Comanche reservation, which was turned over for settlement by a system of drawing lots. Settlers could claim 160 acres of land, just south of Fort Sill. As the third largest city in the state, Lawton has many amenities, and is the home of several manufacturing and processing companies. Founded in 1901, Lawton is the county seat of Comanche County and third largest city in Oklahoma, located 90 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. It is situated in southwest Oklahoma, near the Wichita Mountains. The Lawton metro area has close to 300,000 residents and is the cultural and economic center of the area.
