At the turn of the 20th century, the land, which would one day become Lawton was a Kiowa-Comanche reservation, which was turned over for settlement by a system of drawing lots. Settlers could claim 160 acres of land, just south of Fort Sill. As the third largest city in the state, Lawton has many amenities, and is the home of several manufacturing and processing companies.
