Reno is the county seat of Washoe County, Nevada and is the third largest city in the state after Las Vegas and Henderson. It is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, 22 miles northeast of Lake Tahoe.

Reno, which calls itself "The Biggest Little City in the World", is the second largest gaming center in the state after Las Vegas. It has revitalized its downtown area and, in 2004, completed a $1.5 million whitewater park on the Truckee River, with whitewater events taking place throughout the year. Residents can choose from 14 ski areas, including 8 major ski resorts (Squaw Valley, Diamond Peak) which is only about two hours away. Pyramid Lake, Washoe Lake and Lake Tahoe offer various kinds of outdoor recreation.
