Minneapolis is located in Minnesota and is the largest city in the state. It adjoins St. Paul, the state's capital, and together they form the core of the “Twin Cities”, metropolitan area. Minneapolis is positioned in the southeast portion of the state and sits along the Mississippi River. Minneapolis is home to many cultural amenities and attractions such as the Stone Arch Bridge, the State Theatre, and the Guthrie Theatre which is the most famous theatre in the city. Many annual festivals and events draw large crows of residents and visitors. Some of these festivals include the Minnesota Fringe Festival and the Uptown Art Fair. Minneapolis has many recreational parks and lakes, the most famous of which is the Minnehaha Park. There are also several freshwater lakes across the southern part of the city. The largest lakes, such as Lake Harriett and Lake Calhoun, make up the “Chain of Lakes”. For those who enjoy watching sports games, Minneapolis is home to athletic teams including the Minnesota Twins (NLB) and the Minnesota Vikings (NFL), both of which play in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The Target Center, another sports venue, is host to the NBA's Timberwolves (NBA) and Lynx (WNBA). The city has many residential neighborhoods each offering a variety of housing options. Many of the suburban communities have seen recent developments of lofts and condominiums and single-family home improvements.
