Peoria is the county seat of Peoria County and sixth largest city in Illinois, with a population of about 115,000.

The downtown area has high-rise residential condominiums, apartments, and riverfront lofts. Nearby cities include Bellevue, Norwood, East Peoria, Creve Coeur, Bartonville and Marquette Heights.

Did You Know? Settled in 1680, Peoria is one of the oldest settlements in Illinois. It is much older than Chicago. Peoria, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, was named after Peoria, Illinois, the founders' hometown. Famed comedian Richard Pryor was born in Peoria, IL. The expression "Will it play in Peoria?" originated during Peoria's highly successful vaudeville days.
