Sarasota offers diverse neighborhoods and home architectural styles, all within 15 minutes of the water. There are downtown high rise condominium apartments overlooking the bay. In historic neighborhoods, there are older homes which were once winter vacation cottages and bungalows. Newer houses are in gated bayfront and country club estates with spectacular land and views. Sarasota has a strong base of retirees, about a third of the population, together with younger families. Sarasota, with its neighbors to the north and south, Manatee County and Charlotte County, form the 7th-largest market in Florida. Housing values are such that CNN/Money ranked Sarasota 18th most undervalued city in January 2010.
Did You Know? The city slogan is "Where urban amenities meet small town living." In December 2003, the scenic 69 mile Tamiami Trail was officially chosen as a Florida Scenic and Heritage Highway, running from the north Manatee to the south Sarasota County lines.
