Washington D.C., the capital city and administrative district of the United States, is located in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area which includes Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The centers of all three branches of the United States federal government and many federal agencies are located in Washington D.C. The district is also home to many popular historical landmarks, museums, and cultural facilities. The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts the National Symphony Orchestra, the Washington Opera, and the Washington Ballet. The Bohemian Caverns Jazz Club is one of the most popular jazz clubs in the area. Washington is also known for its many prestigious colleges and universities such as Georgetown University, American University, and George Washington University. The district has excellent and highly accessibly public transportation, providing the community with many highways, commuter trains, Greyhound buses, and the Washington Metro.
