Hartford is the capital of Connecticut, located on the Connecticut River in Hartford County, 25 miles south of Springfield, Massachusetts. Hartford is the second-largest city in the state, after Bridgeport and New Haven. The Greater Hartford metro area is the largest in Connecticut, with a 2006 population of about 1.2 million.
