San Juan Capistrano real estate information:
San Juan Capistrano, incorporated in 1961, is a beautiful historic city in southern Orange County, located about 20 miles southeast of Santa Ana. The 2008 estimated population is almost 35,000.
San Juan Capistrano has homes which resemble Spanish architecture, as well as contain a vast variety of housing styles, including adobes from the 18th century. There are also multi-million dollar homes in beautiful gated communities in the hills. Other homes include condominiums, upscale homes and horse property.
Points of interest include Mission San Juan Capistrano ("Jewel of the Missions"), founded in 1776, with the oldest building in California still in use; Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano, the tallest building in town; Trabuco Creek; El Adobe de Capistrano, an historic adobe and California Landmark; The Depot, a national railroad station originally built in 1894; Los Rios Historic District, dating to 1794, the oldest used neighborhood in California, with many historic places in the National Register, including Montanez Adobe; the O'Neill Museum; ZOOMARS Petting Zoo and Bird Park; Historic Town Center Park; and the Blas Aguilar Adobe Museum. The Swallows Festival ("Fiesta de las Golondrinas") is a two-month event commemorating the return of the cliff swallows, every year on March 19. It begins with the "Taste of San Juan Reception".
Did You Know? San Juan Capistrano has California's oldest residential neighborhood, Los Rios Historic District. Cliff swallows return to Capistrano every year from Goya, Argentina.
