Dana Point real estate information:
Dana Point is located in southern Orange County, California, half way between Los Angeles and San Diego. It is bordered on the north by the cities of Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach, on the east by San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente to the south.
The Dana Point Harbor is divided into the East and West Basin – separate marinas with over 2,500 boat slips. There is also a fishing pier, lovely places to eat, interesting boutiques, shipyard, three yacht clubs, and fishing operations, which offer popular whale watching trips all year. The Festival of Whales is a wonderful and famous annual event. At the far west end of Dana Point Harbor is the Ocean Institute, which provides education for children and adults. Over two million people visit the harbor annually for shopping, dining, events, and recreation. The annual Tall Ship Festival in September is the largest on the West Coast.
Dana Point is rich for cultural activities. Music, art, and performing arts are part of the community with many festivals and events, including the annual Doheny Blues Festival and the Doheny Days Music & International Food Festival. Cultural groups include Dana Point Coastal Arts, Dana Point Fine Arts, Dana Point Theater Company, Capistrano Valley Symphony, and the Dana Point Historical Society.
Dominant features of the city are the nearly seven miles of coastal bluffs and rolling hills along the Pacific Ocean, including the famous promontory "Headlands", which overlooks Dana Point Harbor.
Did You Know? The city's namesake is author Richard Henry Dana who wrote "Two Years Before The Mast" in 1840. One of the developers of Dana Point was Sidney Woodruff, the original builder of the famous Hollywood sign. One of the very rare megamouth sharks was caught off Dana Point in 1990. The famous surfing movie Endless Summer was produced in Dana Point. Dana Point is within an hour's drive of four major airports: John Wayne, San Diego, Ontario, and LAX. Dana Point Harbor is known as the "Whale Watching Capital of the West."
