San Francisco real estate facts:

San Francisco, the City by the Bay, founded in 1776, is the 4th most populated city in California and 13th in the U.S., with over 800,000 residents. San Francisco is the financial, cultural, and transportation center of the larger San Francisco Bay Area, an area with over 7 million people. The city is located at the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and San Francisco Bay to the north and east.

San Francisco is famous for its hills, with more than 50 hills in the city, some extremely steep. Some neighborhoods are named after the hills, including Nob Hill, Pacific Heights, Bernal Heights, Telegraph Hill, Potrero Hill, Russian Hill and Pacific Heights, which has some of the most expensive homes in the city. Other neighborhoods include the Mission District, The Castro, Chinatown, Cole Valley, Upper and Lower Haight, Hayes Valley, Inner Richmond, Marina, Noe Valley, North Beach (home to Little Italy), Richmond, South Beach, North Waterfront, Sunset, SoMa (South of Market), Tenderloin, Union Square, The Presidio, Corona Heights, and Cow Hollow. The city has one of the largest and most politically active gay and lesbian populations in the country.

San Francisco sports teams include the San Francisco baseball Giants and the NFL 49ers.
