Incorporated in 1909, Huntington Beach is a gorgeous oceanfront city in Orange County with 8.5 miles of beautiful sandy beach. The 2008 estimated population was 192,600. It is bordered by Seal Beach, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Westminster, and Fountain Valley. It is located about 35 miles south of Los Angeles and about 90 miles north of San Diego.

Huntington Beach is extremely popular with surfers. It owns the trademark Surf City USA. It is also called "Surfing Capital of the World." The Surfers' Hall of Fame is on Main Street. Huntington Beach has four beaches: Northwest, West, Southwest, and South. Bolsa Chica State Beach and Huntington State Beach are state parks while Huntington City Beach, is operated by the city. Because of its beauty, attractions, and events, over 16 million visitors come to Huntington Beach every year.

Popular attractions are the Huntington Harbor, considered one of the most romantic destinations in Southern California, offering boat marinas, gondola rides, boat and kayak rentals around five man-made islands and miles of beautiful calm channels. Like romantic Venice, the harbor has hundreds of luxury homes and features quaint island beaches, parks, charming boutiques, restaurants and shopping centers. Another gem is Huntington Beach Pier, the focal point of town, running 1,800 feet into the ocean. You can fish here. There is also Central Park, the largest city owned park in Orange County, which is home to the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center, which offers guided horse trail rides through the park. Attractions nearby include Knott's Berry Farm, less than 15 miles away and Disneyland, less than 20 miles away, as well as the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach and Universal Studios Hollywood.

The downtown area, directly across from Huntington Beach Pier, has a wonderful shopping area with boutiques and cafes, an active art center, and the International Surfing Museum. There are also 71 parks with over 750 acres, including Bailey Park, Carr Park, Edison Park, Farquhar Park, French Park, Lake Park, and Murdy Park. Lovers of performance art and music visit the Huntington Beach Playhouse and the Smooth Jazz Concert Series and the Pier Plaza Presents Concert Series.

Huntington Beach students are served by the Huntington Beach Union High School District, as well as the Ocean View School District and the Fountain Valley School District. Higher education is available nearby at Golden West College, Orange Coast College, the University of California, Irvine, and California State Universities at Long Beach and Fullerton.
