Albuquerque real estate facts:
The city is divided into four quadrants below. The north-south division line is Central Avenue, while east and west are divided by the BNSF Railway tracks.
Northeast - has some of the most affluent neighborhoods in the city, including High Desert, Primrose Pointe, Tanoan, Glenwood Hills, Sandia Heights, and North Albuquerque Acres.
Northwest - includes historic Old Town, the largest section of downtown and is a mix of commercial, low-income, middle-income, and some very expensive homes. Other neighborhoods include historic Martineztown, Paradise Hills, and the "North Valley" area, which includes small ranches and expensive residential homes along the Rio Grande.
Southeast - includes Nob Hill and East Downtown (EDo), as well as the expensive residential communities of Four Hills, Volterra, Willow Wood, and Ridgecrest. There are also some poorer areas in this quadrant.
Southwest - also known as the "South Valley, this quadrant was agricultural and rural land. It includes the older communities of Atrisco, Los Padillas, Kinney, Mountain View, and Pajarito, as well as the historic Barelas neighborhood. The south end of downtown Albuquerque, the Bosque, the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the Rio Grande Zoo and Tingley Beach are also found here. The area is growing rapidly with residential subdivisions.
Albuquerque is the home of the University of New Mexico and is in the center of the New Mexico Technology Corridor, with many high-tech companies and government institutions along the Rio Grande. In 2006, Forbes Magazine rated Albuquerque as the best city in America for business and careers and the 13th best metro area (out of 200) in 2008.
